纖維球是由纖維絲扎結而成的球形濾料，它與傳統的鋼性濾料相比，具有彈性效果好，不上浮水面，空隙大，工作周期長，水頭損失小等優點。在過濾過程中，濾層空隙沿水流方向逐漸變小，比較符合理想濾料由上大下小的孔隙率分布，從而形成了濾速快，截污容量大，過濾效果好，可再生反復使用，不必全部更換，省時省力等優點。

纖維球濾料，可將不易沉淀去除的微小懸浮物截留。濾速比傳統砂濾料高3.5倍，濾料能反洗再生，可實現自動化管理，一般濾速30m/h，粗濾進水100mg/l，出水SS5mg/l，精濾進水20mg/l，出水2mg/l。廣泛應用于油田、化工、電力、冶金等行業的高標用水；循環、旁濾和廢水回收利用。

纖維球分類

纖維球主要分為普通纖維球和改性纖維球。

改性纖維球適用于油田含油污水的精細過濾，也適用于其它工業廢水的精細過濾。 改性纖維球去除油及有機物的機理為:直接攔截、慣性攔截和電化吸附。濾前水質含油15mg/L，懸浮物10mg/L;濾后水質含油5mg/L，懸浮物2mg/L。

改性纖維球表面經過改性處理，對油及有機物的吸附能力增強;改性纖維球新型結扎方式，運行時濾層孔隙率沿水流方向逐漸減小，形成了比較理想的濾料上大下小的孔隙分布狀態，過濾效果更好;濾速高，可達25-30m/h。濾料只需每年補10左右，無需更換。 改性纖維球與普通纖維球 的區別在于是一種不同于紡織用染色性差的高分子聚合物----改性纖維絲束精細制作而成，親水疏油，在對含油污水處理中具有效果佳、精度高、易沖洗、使用周期長等優點，廣泛應用于油田、石化加工，印染等行業污水處理中。
